Sturdy Soap Saver

There is nothing quite like the feeling of a handmade shower accessory to turn a regular morning into a little moment of peace. These soap saver bags are brilliant because they help your soap last longer, give you a great exfoliation, and they are the perfect way to use up those cotton scraps sitting on your shelves.

​What You Need

• ​Small amount of cotton project (cotton is a must here because it dries well and stays sturdy when wet)

• ​5mm hook

• ​Yarn needle

• ​Scissors

​The Pattern

​We are going to work from the bottom up in one solid piece so your soap stays nice and secure.

​Foundation: Chain 10.

​Round 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in the next 7 chains. Work 3 single crochets in the last chain (this helps us turn the corner). Now, working along the opposite side of the chain, single crochet in the next 7 chains. Work 2 single crochets in the very last space. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join. (20 stitches)

​Round 2: Chain 2 (counts as first double crochet). Double crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch to the top of your chain-2 to join.

​Rounds 3-7: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet plus a chain-1 space). Skip the next stitch, double crochet in the next, chain 1. Repeat from to all the way around. This creates that mesh look that lets the soap lather up perfectly. Slip stitch to join.

​Round 8: Chain 1. Single crochet in every double crochet and every chain-1 space around. Slip stitch to join. (20 stitches)

​The Drawstring: Chain 30. Fasten off and weave that chain in and out of the holes in Round 7. Tie the ends together in a secure knot.

​Using Your Soap Saver

​Just pop your favorite bar of soap inside, pull the drawstring tight, and you are ready for the shower. When the soap gets down to those tiny, annoying slivers, you can just leave them in there and add a new bar, nothing goes to waste.
