Two Christmas Secrets Worth Keeping
Some custom orders are hard to make.
Others are apparently hard to keep secret until Christmas morning. 😂🎄
This order started when she saw a custom plush her aunt had ordered from me for another family member. Once she saw it in person, she knew she needed to order something special for her own boys.
And that's how a giraffe and a cow became two very important Christmas secrets.
There’s Usually a Why Behind the What
She wanted each of her boys to have a plush made especially for them, so we landed on two completely different friends: a giraffe for one and a cow for the other.
Once they were finished and in her hands, there was just one little problem.
Christmas wasn't here yet.
She had to hide them away and somehow resist giving them to the boys early. And from what she told me, she wasn't entirely sure she was going to make it.

I can't really blame her.
There's something about having a handmade gift tucked away and knowing exactly who it's waiting for that makes keeping the secret so much harder.
But she did it!
From Her Idea to My Hook
Creating these two was especially fun because even though they were part of the same order, they each needed their own personality.
One little giraffe.
One little cow.
Both created stitch by stitch knowing they were eventually going to belong to two very excited little boys.
That's one of the things I love most about custom work. I'm not simply making another plush to sit on a shelf.
I'm making someone's giraffe.
Someone's cow.
And while I'm working, I get to wonder what their reaction will be when they finally meet them.
For these two, I just had to wait until Christmas to find out!
The Smallest Details Often Become the Biggest Ones
When Christmas morning finally arrived, those carefully kept secrets were revealed.
And judging by Mom's message afterward, keeping them hidden was absolutely worth it.
She shared:
“I got my boys a giraffe and a cow made by Melissa and kept them a secret until Christmas! They are adorable, so well made and easily some of the best crochet material I've ever felt. They were both SO excited and sleep with them every night!”
That last part got me.
They sleep with them every night. ❤️
Because at that point, they're not simply crochet animals anymore.
They've become bedtime buddies. Comfort objects. Little friends that get carried around, snuggled, loved, and woven into childhood memories.
And that is pretty special.
Every Custom Order Has a Story
I love that this order began because one handmade piece caught her attention.
Her aunt ordered something for someone she loved. She saw it, felt it, and decided she wanted something special made for her boys too.
Then she somehow managed to keep two adorable little secrets hidden until Christmas morning.
And now?
A giraffe and a cow that started as yarn on my hook are being tucked into bed with two little boys every night. 🦒🐄❤️
That's the part of handmade that will never get old for me.
I may be the one who gets to make them, but their real stories begin when they leave my hands.
