Sometimes a Project Just Needs Another Hook

Anyone who crochets knows the feeling.

You find a project you want to make. You choose your yarn, get started, and maybe even make quite a bit of progress.

Then something happens.

Maybe another project catches your attention. Maybe life gets busy. Maybe the repetitive parts aren't as enjoyable as you expected.

Or maybe you simply look at it one day and realize:

I really don't want to finish this. 😂

That's where this dragon eye pillow was when it came to me.

She had already put time and work into getting it started. Rather than letting it sit unfinished indefinitely, she asked if I would take over and finish it for her.

Absolutely.

This custom order was a little different because I wasn't bringing someone else's idea to life completely from scratch.

I was stepping into a project that another crocheter had already begun.

That meant looking at the work she had completed, figuring out where she left off, and continuing from there while keeping the finished piece cohesive.

There is something really neat about that.

Her stitches are part of the finished pillow.

My stitches are part of it too.

Instead of starting over and losing the work she had already done, I got to pick up where she stopped and help carry the project across the finish line.

And this wasn't just any pillow.

It was a dragon eye pillow. 🐉👁️

The details are what take a project like this from a crocheted pillow to something with personality.

As I worked through the remaining pieces and brought everything together, I got to watch the project she had imagined finally become the finished dragon eye she had originally set out to make.

Sometimes the most satisfying part of a project isn't starting it.

It's finally seeing it finished.

I think there's an important little reminder tucked inside this custom order.

You don't always have to force yourself to finish something just because you started it.

The work you've already put into it doesn't have to go to waste either.

Sometimes you frog it.

Sometimes you tuck it away and come back later.

And sometimes you hand it to another crocheter and say, “Can you please finish this for me?” 😂

In this case, I got to be that crocheter.

She started the dragon eye pillow.

I picked up where she left off.

And together, our stitches became one finished piece.

Custom work doesn't always mean asking me to create something brand new. Sometimes it means trusting me with something you've already started and letting me help you finally see it finished.
