A Shared Love of Doctor Who: Two TARDIS Plushies
Some custom orders are about recreating a favorite character.
Others are about recreating a little piece of a relationship.
This customer reached out with a request inspired by something she and her mother share: a love for Doctor Who.
And she didn’t want just one TARDIS plushie.
She wanted two—one for herself and one for her mom.
Bigger on the Inside... Maybe Not This Time
There are some things you can recognize almost instantly, and that iconic blue police box is definitely one of them.
The challenge was taking something normally made up of straight lines, sharp corners, doors, windows, signs, and tiny architectural details and figuring out how to translate all of that into something soft and crocheted.
Because yarn doesn't always like to behave like a building!
I worked on creating that familiar rectangular shape first, building the structure that would eventually become each little TARDIS.
Then came the details.
Making That Blue Box Recognizable
With a custom piece like this, the little details do a lot of the work.
The windows.
The door panels.
The signs.
The light at the very top.
Each addition transformed a simple blue crocheted shape a little more until there was absolutely no mistaking what these plushies were meant to be.
The TARDIS had arrived.
Well... two of them had.
One for Her and One for Mom
As much as I enjoyed figuring out how to crochet the TARDIS itself, my favorite part of this order was knowing why there needed to be two.
Doctor Who was something this customer shared with her mother.
There is something special about having a show, movie, character, hobby, or tradition that immediately makes you think of someone you love. It becomes more than entertainment. It becomes part of your memories together.
Now each of them would have a handmade little reminder of that shared connection.
One TARDIS for Mom.
One TARDIS for her.
Two matching plushies created from the same yarn, the same idea, and the same story.
Sometimes the Story Is the Best Part
This is exactly why I love creating custom orders.
Yes, I get excited about the challenge of looking at something and figuring out how in the world I am going to recreate it with yarn.
But what makes these creations truly special is learning the story behind them.
A TARDIS plushie is pretty fun on its own.
But two TARDIS plushies made for a mother and daughter who share a love of Doctor Who?
That means something entirely different.
Because sometimes a custom order isn't simply about making someone's favorite thing.
It's about making something that reminds them of their favorite person.
What Would Tell Your Story?
Maybe it is a character you watched together.
A childhood favorite.
An inside joke.
A tradition.
Or something that would make another person immediately say, “This is so us.”
Those are exactly the kinds of ideas I love turning into something you can hold.
