Some custom orders are gifts.
Some are little treats for ourselves.
And sometimes you decide there's absolutely no reason you can't do both. 😂
That's exactly what happened with this order.
She came to me wanting a Mushroom Boi for her niece and decided to add a little monster key holder for herself while she was at it.
I fully support this kind of decision making. 😂
The Mushroom Boi was going to her niece, and there is always something special about making a plushie knowing it's going to be loved by a child.
But this order wasn't only about the gift.
She also chose one of my monster key holders for herself.
They're two completely different creations, but both were meant to bring a little fun into someone's everyday life.
One became a new little friend.
The other became a companion of a different sort, keeping her keys close by wherever she goes.

First came Mushroom Boi. 🍄
There's just something about a little crochet mushroom with a personality that makes him hard not to love.
I knew he was headed to her niece, so as I worked, I imagined this funny little mushroom finding his new home and becoming part of her world.
Then came the monster key holder.
This little guy had a job to do.

He needed to hold her keys while still being cute enough that she'd actually want to keep him around.
And apparently, he took that job very seriously because she doesn't just toss him into a bag.
She keeps him close by and wears the key holder around her wrist like a bracelet.
I love when something I make ends up being used in a way that becomes part of someone's everyday routine.
But the monster didn't stay exactly the way he left my hands.
She decided he needed one more thing.
A nose. 😂💜
She added an adorable little nose herself, giving her monster even more personality and making him completely her own.
And I love that.

Handmade doesn't have to mean that the story ends when something leaves my hook.
Sometimes the person receiving it adds their own little touch.
Now her monster isn't simply the key holder I made.
He's her monster, cute little nose and all.
And Mushroom Boi?
He found exactly the kind of home I hoped he would.
Her niece adores him. 🍄❤️
That's one of my favorite things to hear after a custom order leaves me.
I get to make these creations, photograph them, package them up, and send them on their way, but I don't always get to see what happens afterward.

This time I got to know that one little Mushroom Boi became a beloved friend, while one little monster became an everyday companion who hangs out right on her wrist.
One order.
Two very different creations.
And two new homes where they're being genuinely enjoyed.
That's a pretty good ending to a custom order story.
Or maybe it's just the beginning of theirs.
Would you order something for someone you love, something for yourself, or a little bit of both?
