Some custom orders are inspired by favorite characters.
But this one had an extra special connection to the character being made.
A grandma reached out because her granddaughter had landed a role in her school's production of The Grinch.
And she wasn't playing just any character.
She was Max! 🐶🎄
So, naturally, Grandma decided her Max needed a little Max of her very own.
I love when a custom order celebrates a moment in someone's life.
School productions may only last for a few performances, but the memories surrounding them can stick around for years.
Learning the part.
Rehearsing.
Putting on the costume.
The excitement and nerves before stepping onto the stage.
And, of course, having family sitting in the audience waiting to cheer you on.
Her grandma wanted to give her something connected to that experience, so she asked me to create a Max inspired plush just for her.
Not simply because she liked the character.
Because, for a little while, she got to be Max. ❤️
With Max as my inspiration, I got to work figuring out how to capture that sweet, scruffy little dog in crochet form.
Character inspired custom orders are always fun because there are certain details that immediately make you recognize who they're supposed to be.
I wanted her to be able to look at her new plush and immediately think about the character she had worked so hard to portray.
Stitch by stitch, Max started coming together.
And the entire time I worked, I knew this little guy wasn't simply going to sit on a shelf.
He was going to commemorate something.
One of my favorite things about this order is that the plush could last much longer than the production itself.
Eventually, the costumes get put away.
The set comes down.
The final curtain closes.
But Max gets to stay.
Years from now, that little crochet dog can still bring back the memory of the time she was part of her school's production of The Grinch.
And maybe someday she'll look at him and remember being backstage with her classmates, putting on her costume, stepping onto that stage, and seeing her family there to support her.
That's when a plush becomes more than just a plush.
It becomes a little piece of a memory.

This order started with a proud grandma.
Her granddaughter was playing Max, and she wanted to celebrate her with something made especially for the occasion.
So I got to turn yarn into a little reminder of a pretty big moment. 🐶❤️
I imagine there are going to be plenty of pictures from the production and lots of stories to tell afterward.
And now there will also be one little Max who gets to stick around long after the curtain closes.
That's one of the things I love most about handmade gifts.
Sometimes you're not simply giving someone a stuffie.
You're giving them something that says, “I saw your moment, I was proud of you, and I wanted you to have something to remember it by.”
And I think Grandma absolutely nailed this one. 🎄🐶❤️
What special moment would you turn into a handmade keepsake for someone you love?
