A Clydesdale Under the Christmas Tree

Some Christmas gifts are chosen from a wish list.

Others start with a mom knowing exactly what her child loves and wanting to turn that love into something made especially for them.

This custom order started with two things:

Horses and crochet.

Her daughter loved them both, and at the time, she was especially obsessed with Clydesdales.

So Mom reached out with an idea for a Christmas surprise.

“My daughter is in love with horses and crochet items, and I thought this would make an amazing Christmas present.”

And just like that, a little Clydesdale was headed for my hook. 🐴❤️

There’s Usually a Why Behind the What

She already had a pretty good idea of what she wanted.

She shared an inspiration photo and told me her daughter was really into Clydesdales, so she wanted something with that same feel.

Brown and white.

Dark brown hair.

And then a little pop of personality with pink reins and a pink saddle. 🩷

Those details gave me the perfect starting point.

I wasn't simply making a crochet horse.

I was creating a Christmas gift inspired by the kind of horse her daughter couldn't get enough of.

And I had one more important part of the request:

Could I get it finished in time for Christmas?

Challenge accepted. 🎄

From Her Idea to My Hook

Clydesdales have such a recognizable look, and I wanted this little crochet version to capture some of that while still being soft, cuddly, and full of handmade personality.

The brown and white body gave me the foundation.

Then came that dark mane and the details that really started turning a crochet horse into her horse.

And I loved the choice of pink for the reins and saddle.

It wasn't necessarily about making a perfectly realistic Clydesdale.

It was about combining something her daughter was obsessed with and details that would make the finished horse feel fun and special to her.

That's where custom orders get really good.

We can take inspiration from something real and then add those little touches that make it completely personal.

And Then There Was a Goldfish...

Because apparently a Clydesdale wasn't the only thing on this order.

She also added a small crochet goldfish. 🐟

Horse and goldfish?

Sure. Why not? 😂

That's another thing I love about custom orders. They don't have to make sense as a collection.

If you need a Clydesdale with a pink saddle for one Christmas gift and a tiny goldfish too, that's what we're making.

My hook doesn't ask questions.

Okay...maybe I ask questions.

But the hook is completely on board.

The Smallest Details Often Become the Biggest Ones

For me, this order really came down to the details Mom shared at the very beginning.

Her daughter didn't just like horses.

She was obsessed with Clydesdales.

She didn't just want something handmade.

She already loved crochet items.

That meant Mom wasn't picking a random stuffed animal from a shelf and hoping she'd like it.

She was taking two things her daughter already loved and bringing them together into one Christmas present made specifically for her.

Then we added the colors, the dark hair, that pink tack, and all the little handmade details that made the finished piece hers.

Every Custom Order Has a Story

I think that's what made this Christmas order so sweet.

A mom paid attention to what her daughter was loving in that particular season of her life.

Horses.

Clydesdales.

Crochet.

And instead of simply searching the stores for something close enough, she asked if I could make it for her.

So somewhere along the way, yarn became a brown and white Clydesdale with dark hair and pink details, ready to become a Christmas surprise.

Plus one little goldfish who somehow found his way into the story too.
