Sometimes custom orders have the funniest timing.
Just a week or so before this order came in, another customer had told me about bouquet blankets.
I hadn't really been familiar with them before, but of course, once someone tells me about an interesting crochet creation, I'm curious.
Then this customer reached out.
She had stumbled across a picture of a sunflower bouquet blanket on Facebook and told me:
“I know when I stumbled across the picture on Facebook, I had never seen anything like it before.”
Funny enough, until the week before, neither had I.
Suddenly, bouquet blankets were popping up in my crochet world, and now I had someone asking me to actually make one.
Apparently, it was time for me to learn how to make a bouquet blanket!
The really fun thing about these blankets is that at first glance, you don't necessarily realize what you're looking at.
Folded and rolled together, the blanket looks like a beautiful bouquet of crocheted flowers.
Then you open it up.
It's an entire blanket.

I could immediately understand why the picture had caught my customer's attention. It was different, beautiful, and one of those crochet creations that makes you stop for a second and figure out exactly what you're looking at.
For her version, we would be creating a bouquet filled with sunflowers.
But as with so many of the custom orders that come through my door, there was more behind this one than simply seeing something pretty on Facebook.
This blanket wasn't for my customer.
It was for a friend who had been there for her when she needed someone in her corner.
When she told me why she wanted this particular gift made, suddenly those happy sunflowers felt even more fitting.
She said:
“My friend has been such a rock for me. I knew I had to get it made for her, so she will have a small reminder of her biggest cheerleader she has in me.”
And that is the part of custom work that I love.
Yes, I was making a sunflower bouquet blanket.
But my customer was giving her friend something that said:
I see everything you've done for me. I'm in your corner too. And I want you to have something that reminds you of that.
Now we weren't just figuring out how to turn a blanket into a bouquet.
We were creating a thank you.
One of the things custom orders have taught me over the years is that I don't have to have made something before to be willing to explore the possibility.
Sometimes a customer comes to me with something familiar.
Other times, they bring me an idea that sends me down an entirely new crochet rabbit hole.
This was definitely one of those.
I needed to understand not only how to create the blanket itself, but how all the pieces worked together so that when it was folded, it transformed into that beautiful bouquet shape that had originally caught her attention.
There were flowers to make.
A blanket to crochet.
Placement to consider.

And then the final folding and arranging that would bring the whole idea together.
It was part blanket making, part flower making, and maybe even a little floral arranging thrown in for good measure.
Then came one of the best parts: watching those sunflowers begin to appear.
There is just something cheerful about a sunflower.
As the individual pieces came together, I could finally start seeing how the finished bouquet was going to look.
That's always one of my favorite stages of trying something new.
In the beginning, you have yarn, an inspiration picture, and a plan.
Then little by little, it stops looking like a pile of separate pieces and starts looking like the thing you imagined.
And with this project, there was an extra transformation waiting at the end.
Once everything was finished, the blanket could be folded and arranged into its bouquet form.
Suddenly, it wasn't just a blanket anymore.
It was the unique creation my customer had stopped scrolling to look at on Facebook, now made especially for a friend who meant so much to her.

Of course, one of my favorite parts of a custom order is showing the customer what their idea has become.
After seeing the finished sunflower bouquet blanket, she told me:
“And thank you so much for helping me get special gifts to special people in my life. It turned out fantastic, and I know my friend will absolutely be thrilled with it when she gets it.”
That right there is why these stories belong in my Custom Order Gallery.
It's not really about filling a gallery with pictures of things I've crocheted.
It's about remembering why they were made.
This blanket started with a picture that stopped someone mid scroll.
But behind that picture was a friend who had been her rock.
A friend she wanted to thank.
A friend she wanted to remind that she had her own biggest cheerleader standing right there beside her.
The sunflowers were simply how we chose to say it.

Maybe that's why you're wandering through my Custom Order Gallery right now.
You're not necessarily looking for this exact sunflower blanket.
You're looking for an idea.
Maybe there's someone who has been your rock.
Someone celebrating a new beginning.
Someone walking through something difficult.
Someone who deserves a thank you that feels a little more personal.
Or maybe you have a picture saved on your phone because the moment you saw it, you thought of them.
That's where we can start.
Browse through these stories. Save the things that spark an idea. Bring me the photo you found somewhere else. Tell me about the person you're shopping for and why they matter to you.
We don't have to recreate someone else's gift.
We can create the one that tells your story.
