A Sweet Strawberry Shortcake Inspired Blanket: A Custom Creation Full of Inspiration

Some custom orders begin with a picture.

Some begin with a favorite character, memory, or theme.

And some begin with a feeling.

This blanket started with a request for something sweet, nostalgic, and full of strawberry charm.

A customer reached out wanting a Strawberry Shortcake themed blanket, and I knew this one was going to be a fun creative adventure.

The goal was not to simply recreate one existing pattern.

It was to gather inspiration from several different crochet techniques and designs, then combine them into a one of a kind blanket that captured the feeling of Strawberry Shortcake.

One of my favorite parts of custom crochet is taking inspiration from different places and figuring out how they can work together.

For this blanket, I pulled ideas from several talented crochet designers:

The overall strawberry blanket inspiration came from The Caffeinated Snail's crochet strawberry blanket.

The strawberry granny square design was inspired by Raffamusa Designs' strawberry granny square.

The strawberry stitch detail came from Naztazia Crochet's strawberry stitch.

And, of course, the classic granny square brought in that timeless crochet feel that ties everything together.

The fun part about custom orders is that the finished piece does not have to look exactly like the inspiration.

Instead, the inspiration becomes the starting point.

I took elements that captured the Strawberry Shortcake feeling and combined them into a blanket designed specifically for this order.

There was experimenting.

There was planning.

There was figuring out how each element would work together.

And slowly, row by row, the idea started becoming a finished creation.

There is something extra special about handmade gifts.

They carry time.

They carry thought.

They carry all the little decisions that happened along the way.
